GIOMI S.p.A. was founded in 1949 by Professor Franco Faggiana – a Sicilian surgeon who lectured at the “La Sapienza” University of Rome – and a number of entrepreneurs from Rome and Reggio with the aim of creating, for post WWII Southern Italy, state-of-the-art hospital facilities in the orthopaedics sector.

With 8 hospitals, 17 Nursing/Retirement Homes, 12 Care Homes/Hospitals/Partner Nursing Homes and 2 Dialysis Centres, the GIOMI Group employs more than 3,500 people and is one of the leading companies in private healthcare in Italy in terms of the number of beds, employees and turnover.

The Group’s first hospital was the “Franco Faggiana” Orthopaedic Institute in Reggio Calabria founded in 1951 specialising in Orthopaedics-Traumatology and Motor Rehabilitation.

In 1956, the “Franco Scalabrino” Institute. was established in Messina. In addition to the primary specialisation in Orthopaedics-Traumatology, departments were established over the years in General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, Cardiology, Rheumatology, Urology, Digestive Endoscopy, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic and Neurological Rehabilitation.

In 1971, ICOT – “Marco Pasquali” was inaugurated in Latina and is now the Group’s largest facility. In addition to the Departments of Orthopaedics-Traumatology, the facility houses the Departments of Neurological, Orthopaedic and Cardiac Rehabilitation, an Intensive Care and Reanimation Unit, an Emergency Room Service, a Dialysis Centre, a Hyperbaric Chamber and equipment for Shock Wave therapy.

The “Sapienza” University of Rome – Faculty of Pharmacy and Medicine – Pontino Centre is located in the hospital complex.

In 2002, the Florentine Institute for Care and Assistance became part of the GIOMI Group with the “Ulivella e Glicini” Care Home. The Institute encompasses the specialisations of Orthopaedics, General Surgery, General Medicine, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Urology, Orthopaedic, Cardiac and Neurological Rehabilitation, Dialysis Centre and Cyberknife® Radiosurgery Centre.

In 2010, the GIOMI Group bought the “Cappellani” Care Home in Messina. The Care Home was founded in 1931 and conducts the following specialist treatment activities: General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Gynaecological Surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics-Traumatology, Cardiology, Analysis Laboratory with a specialist Cyto-histopathology sector.

In 2014, the public-private “Cristo Re” Hospital of Rome became part of the Group. The Facility has the primary specialisation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Nursery and Neonatal Pathology alongside Emergency Room, General Medicine, Cardiology, Respiratory Diseases, Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy, General Surgery, Urology, Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Anaesthesia and Reanimation and Sub-Intensive Care. The “Madre Agnese” Rest Home in San Giovanni Incarico (FR) and the “Pia Casa Ambrosini” Institute in Rome also form part of Virginia Bracelli SpA.

The latest acquisition, in september 2015, was the “Villa Betania” Care Home in Rome. The hospital and welfare activities are divided between the General Medicine Area, Surgical Area with specialisation in Urology and Orthopaedics, Rehabilitation Area, with specialisation in Orthopaedic and Cardiac Rehabilitation. A Gynaecology Department and a Long-term Care Department are soon to come into operation.

All the Group’s Institutes, computerised and interconnected, have agreements with the NHS – both for outpatient services and admissions – and with the major insurance companies, and have obtained ISO 9001:2008 certification.

In June 2004, the Group’s Scientific Company, the “Giomi Foundation – Onlus” was established.
The purpose of this non-profit organisation is to support and promote scientific research in the sectors of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, the Cardiothoracic-Vascular apparatus and Neurological, Orthopaedic, Respiratory and Cardiac Rehabilitation.

One example of the Group’s activity is the publication since 1955 of the periodical “Acta Orthopaedica Italica”.

Some of GIOMI’s Institutes have agreements with local Faculties of Medicine, and make available beds with respect to the specific needs of the various Universities and Schools of Specialisation.

Through the establishment of subsidiary/associate companies, GIOMI has gradually increased its operation in Lazio (Rome, Latina, Pomezia, Civitavecchia, Viterbo) and Apulia, broadening its specialisations to include, in particular, Cardiac Surgery, Obstetrics and Care for the Elderly (Nursing Homes).

GIOMI RSA s.r.l.., part of the Gruppo GIOMI S.p.A., operates in healthcare management, personal care services and related services in the field of nursing homes. In 2012, GIOMI RSA expanded its operation in Germany with the management of 8 homes for the elderly.
In addition to its know-how gained over fifty years in the field of healthcare management, GIOMI S.p.A. has made available to the Nursing Homes a computerised system for the research, the exchange of experiences and case studies, statistical processing and, above all, the possibility of using common protocols in healthcare practice, the outcome of continuous comparison between the various facilities. GIOMI also takes part in joint Public/Private Companies for the creation of new ventures in healthcare management: in July 2003, an agreement was stipulated with the Local Health Authority of Belluno for the joint management of the “Codivilla Putti” Hospital in Cortina.

IG.com s.r.l. is the GIOMI Group’s healthcare software house. Since 1969, it has managed the computerisation of both the Group’s own Facilities and external Healthcare Facilities, covering more than 5,000 beds in hospitals, care homes and nursing homes. IG.COM’s strongpoint is the creation of software systems based on the daily collaboration with healthcare personnel.
The products and services provided by IG.COM incorporate cutting edge Information Technologies: virtualization, big data, cloud-based systems and the international technological standards of the Healthcare sector.
IG.COM operates in Italy and Germany at branches in Rome, Messina, Florence and Berlin.
